Little Men

This is a layout that I created as part of the Make it yours Challenge at Scrapbooks etc. The original, created by Mary MacAskill, is shown here on the right and below is my take.
I loved her visual triangle with buttons and title, I used something similar but more boy with the gears, buttons and screws. This was a lot of fun. I look forward to the next challenge.

Create your own embellishment

I love this classic color combo of blue and yellow, it is bright and goes perfectly with the photos of my sons swimming lessons. I wanted a turtle for an embellishment (because he was in level sea turtle), but as Murphy would have it I could not find one. So I headed to my Google image search to find a picture that I could some how create into a paper piecing. I found this turtle but it really needed to be simplified (that would be far to much cutting). So I solidified the head, arms and legs (flippers, not sure what you call it), and kept the detail on the shell. I cut out the shape twice and layered the light green, with the shell and head cut out, on top of the solid dark green. I then used a little ink to add definition to the edge of the shell and there you have it a cute little turtle. The waves were a hand cut job too, just kinda fun and funky, with button splashes. So if you can't find something at a store next time, just make it up!! LSS idea

This layout was part of a local scrapbook stores, product playtime challenge. A contest where participants receive the same product and create something using every thing in the kit for the chance to win. This for me was another win win situation, there is a dead line so it got me back on track with my creative draught and a chance to win a little product. It is not my favorite layout, there are a number of things that I would not have used, but it was fun to try and make products go together in a new way. {In the kit was 2 pattern papers, a scallop cardstock, 4 red brads, metal heart, a chipboard oval, 4 gem brads, and 6 rain drops}

Products used DCWV Cardstock, We R Memory Keeper Pattern Paper, Bazzill Chipboard and Scallop, MM brads.

Motivating Magazines

Since most of the publication schedules are now looking for Halloween and Christmas stuff, now is the perfect time for me to get caught up on some more holiday layouts. I find it so inspiring and motivating to check out magazine calls. Even if you don’t get published you still get something done. Here is the next one highlighting my eldest sons Christmas moments.

My Favorite Trend

So with all that is happening in the world, it is really nice to see that cheery sunshine and clouds are a big hit and trend in scrapping. In this layout I was aiming to capture the feeling of two young boys reaching for the sky, using bright colors, clouds and windswept swirls. The creation of this page just made me happy from start to finish.

Inspiration Overload

Sometimes it is only to easy to get lost in all the inspiration available on the internet. You sit down at the computer only to look at the clock and discover that you have been looking for several hours and have now lost the time you had to create. Sound familiar! As wonderful as that is, it's not very productive. I have had to force myself to limit the amount of time that I spend cruising, to help me achieve that, I selected only a handful of smaller sites to visit. I find that with large sights I just don’t know where to stop. This forces me to create from the inspiration available. One of these sites is Daily Inspirations. The challenges are fairly loose, but it gives me a great starting point to focus my creative energy.
This is one of the most recent challenges, to use the word LIFE.Products used: Cardstock by Bazzill, Pattern Paper by Bohemia, Provo craft and My Minds Eye, Chipboard by Basic grey, arrow by 7 gypsies and Tiny Alpha's by Making Memories. the graphic at the top is a digital brush printed onto a transparency.

No More Scrap Math

I used to create my own photo collages, I would literally spend hours, mapping out photo placement on graph paper, then sizing them on my computer, printing them, cutting them out and the repositioning them onto my page. It was a lot of work, that was until I found Scrapbooks etc. free quick collages. These handy little templates allow you to drop, drag, size and print your photo collage with out having to measure a thing. I was incredibly honored that one of my pages using these templates was featured in the feb\march issue of SBE. (seen here on the right).

These templates are quite possibly my new favorite scrap booking tool, here is the most recent use of one.

Little Gamers

This is one of those pages that just came together naturally. I started with these great Valentines cards made by Fancy pants, I then found the perfect sized scrap piece of pattern paper, (I love it when that happens) I cut the cool pack man title and the journaling was done on a printable transparency, add a couple of brads and viola!! I am really pleased with the result.

Chistmas Perspective

Every year I struggle with my Christmas photos , there are simply too many, I never know where to start. Normally I would create a page that tries to capture the whole story by including photos of the entire days events. It then becomes a daunting task to put together a page that compliments the enormous amount of color and conveys the proper feelings of joy, excitement and chaos .

I needed a new perspective!

So in order to break it down into more manageable pieces, I decided to create separate pages for each of my boys, capturing the highlights of their Christmas morning. The page came together quickly and the story was easy to write because it was focused on one person instead of the whole family. Here is result #1 Levi’s Christmas.

I have been inspired!! As a new member of the Daily Inspirations design team, I have been exposed to the wonderful world of blogging. I will admit that prior to that I was a skeptic. I never quite understood why anyone would want to read my thoughts, however, after visiting my fellow DT member Cortney's Blog I was really inspired by the sharing of her creative process. So with that I decided that I too would like to share my love for scrapping and maybe I can inspire others with my creative process as well! Right now I am working on a variety of different things but here is one featuring our new pup Glory.
